juliettetang: The Mechanics Institute Library is a private, members-only library in downtown San Francisco that houses one of the best collections of books and periodicals I’ve ever seen. Intriguingly the Mechanics Institute is also a chess club - in fact, the oldest in the United States. I’d also wager it’s the only library outside of the Eastern Bloc that carries Hungarian chess magazines. Exhibit A: Sakkélet. in following library-related tumblrs, on occasion something disgusting, like photos of a dolled up asian girl posing with books about chess, will just show up on your dashboard. this is just a risk we take.
